Author Katrina Chen will be at the North Vancouver City Library to discuss her 2025 picture book on family violence, A Stronger Home. This talk is presented in collaboration with Mayor Linda Buchanan and in recognition of International Women’s Day (March 8, 2026).
The author talk will be followed by a panel discussion with local community organizations. The North Shore Women’s Centre, North Shore Crisis Services Society, and Hollyburn Family Services will discuss resources available to assist those on the North Shore experiencing domestic violence.
Light refreshments will be served.
About the presenters:
Katrina Chen (陳葦蓁) is an author, life and career coach, and advocate with nearly 20 years in community service. She previously served as an MLA, Minister of State for Child Care, and a Burnaby Board of Education Trustee. She is currently the President of 安信 (AnXin) Community Savings, B.C.’s first credit union initiative serving Chinese-language communities. Katrina is also the author of A Stronger Home, a picture book about family violence, healing, and the meaning of home.
The North Shore Women’s Centre provides women with access to resources and assists them with life choices, actively address violence against women at all levels of the community, challenge sexism and discrimination in the community, and works towards the elimination of the feminization of poverty.
The North Shore Crisis Services Society (NSCSS) is a registered charity that provides emergency shelter, longer-term housing solutions, and essential services to women and children leaving domestic abuse and violence on the North Shore.
Hollyburn Family Services is a multi-service agency that has been providing support to children, youth, adults and families in the Greater Vancouver region since 1990. Their Specialized Services provides a range of support services to individuals who have experienced the physical and/or emotional effects of violence from a family member or partner.
