The North Vancouver City Library is inviting young artists to submit work in commemoration of Orange Shirt Day

North Vancouver City Library is inviting young artists to submit work in commemoration of Orange Shirt Day and the assertion that every child matters. Orange Shirt Day recognizes survivors of residential schools in Canada. Held annually in September, it is a movement that encourages conversation and learning about the history of residential schools and survivors. Read more about Orange Shirt Day.

The goal of this call is to raise awareness and create meaningful discussion about the effects of Residential Schools and the legacy they have left behind through the lens of our community’s youth. The winning artwork should advance the mission of Orange Shirt Day and reconciliation, and reflect the artist’s personal understanding and relationship to the concept “Every Child Matters.”

Selected artwork will be screen printed on orange T-shirts and worn by staff at North Vancouver City Library annually on Orange Shirt Day (this year on Sept. 30, 2020). The artwork will also be displayed in the City Library lobby for public view Sept. 20 – Oct. 3, 2020.
