Seniors' Gathering: Tea-making workshop

Tuesday, June 10, 10 – 11:30 a.m.

This month, please join us as we host Jared Van Somer in a tea-making workshop. Jared is a traditional knowledge keeper and comes from the Kwadacha Nation. In this workshop, participants will learn about local plants and their medicinal benefits through tea-making. Participants can gain a deeper understanding of what goes into teas, and how to personalize their own tea.

Film screening: "Ninan Auassat: We, the Children" 

Thursday, June 12, 2 – 3:45 p.m.

Join us for a screening of the documentary Ninan Auassat: We, the Children (2024, 1h 31m) directed by Kim O'Bomsawin. Told entirely from a child’s perspective, this is a powerful and immersive documentary that reveals the dreams of a new generation ready to take flight. The film is in French, English, Innu Aimun and Attikamekw, with English subtitles.

Artist talk: Aaron Nelson-Moody 

Thursday, June 19, 7 – 8 p.m.

Learn about Coast Salish art with Squamish Nation artist Aaron Nelson-Moody, or “Splash”. Splash's ancestral names are Tawx'sin Yexwulla and Poolx'tun. His expansive career is composed of carving, graphic design and metalwork. Splash is also an educator, who works to research, preserve, and rekindle Coast Salish art and culture.

Cedar paddle keychain craft

Saturday, June 21, 2 – 3:30 p.m.

In this craft workshop, make your own personalized paddle keychain and learn about important symbols from the Coast Salish culture. The Coast Salish people are known for their canoe culture, and you can find these small carved paddles adorning their regalia.
