G3 Terminal Vancouver donates $10K to City Library

Donation to be used for creating a new space for tweens

North Vancouver City Library is excited to announce a $10,000 donation from G3 Terminal Vancouver to be used in support of the library’s middle years project to create a distinct, age-appropriate space for school-aged children.

The donation comes at a time when the library is looking at ways to reallocate space so everyone who visits the library can find a welcoming place to study, learn and connect.

“G3 Terminal Vancouver is proud to be a supporter of the City of North Vancouver Library. We believe the middle years space project will create a positive and constructive learning and social environment when we are all able to gather again. We are excited to support this important addition to the library,” Nick Willcox, Terminal Manager at G3 Terminal Vancouver said.

The need for a middle years area was identified in a Functional Assessment Report approved and endorsed by the North Vancouver City Library Board in 2019.

“The pandemic has highlighted how important our library is to this community and residents of all ages. The addition of a space just for this age group will benefit everyone who uses the library,” North Vancouver City Council Library Liaison Jessica McIlroy said.

School-aged children in grades 4 – 7 are a rapidly growing segment of the City’s population according to 2016 census data. Kids in this age group have unique academic, developmental and social requirements and need a space designed for them — one that is distinct from the children’s and teen areas, Chief Librarian Deb Hutchison Koep said.

The donation will be used to help reconfigure the library’s current children’s area with a special space for middle years that will include public computers, a study zone and place to read and connect with their peers.

“A place just for tweens is something our library building greatly needs — this incredibly generous donation allows us to move forward with this project and give tweens the space they deserve,” Koep said.

Work on the project will commence when public health guidelines allow.
