Drop in to use the library’s sewing machines to work on your own projects. Bring your own materials. Equipment available for you to use at the open studio includes:

  • 4 Janome 2030 QDC-B  and 4 2030 DC-G sewing machines;
  • Sewing and dressmaking shears
  • Rotary cutters and cutting mats
  • Irons and ironing boards
  • Dressmaker’s chalk
  • Measuring tapes
  • Pins
  • Bobbins
  • Denim needles and ball point/jersey needles (on request)

Drop-in to use a sewing machine

Drop-in sewing will take place from 5-8pm, with two 1.5 hour working sessions between 5-6:30pm and 6:30-8pm.

  1. Arrive at either 5pm or 6:30pm to drop-in
  2. Drop-ins will be first come, first served.
  3. Check in with staff, and they will direct you to which machine to work with. 

Guidelines

  • Open sewing is not a class; we will not be working on projects together. A staff member will be present to assist with basic questions and setup, but no instruction will take place.
  • Please bring your own projects and supplies. Scraps will be available for testing only.
  • If this is your first time using the library’s sewing machines, please read the Sewing Machine Guidelines and Disclaimer(352 KB).
  • Open sewing and use of library sewing machines is only available to people 13 and older with a library card in good standing; kids 12 and younger must work with an adult caregiver.
