Music and talk: Rebwar Ensemble

Join us for a live performance of traditional and sacred tanbour music from the Kurdish regions of Iran. This event features members of the Rebwar Ensemble, four musicians dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich heritage of tanbour — a spiritual and symbolic instrument deeply rooted in mysticism, mythology, and oral tradition.

The program includes classical pieces from Kurdish tanbour maqams, as well as original compositions. In addition to three tanbour players, the ensemble includes tombak (Persian drum) and daf (frame drum). One piece will also feature the tanburag, a rare melodic-percussive instrument from Baluchistan.

This performance offers a glimpse into the sacred soundscape of tanbour music, where each melody carries echoes of storytelling, ritual, and the human connection to the divine. The event is designed for general audiences and will be especially meaningful for those curious about Iranian folk and devotional music.

This hour-long performance is brought to you by the Iranian Music Society and is made possible thanks to funding by the Government of Canada's New Horizons Grant for Seniors program. There will be some time for questions and interactions at the end.

معرفی موسیقی آیینی تنبور

گروه موسیقی ریبوار در این برنامه مجموعه‌ای از قطعات کلاسیک را از رپرتوار ساز تنبور اجرا می‌کند. تنبور از دیرباز به‌عنوان سازی آیینی، در مراسم مذهبیِ جماعت یارسان (اهل حق) در مناطق کردنشین غرب ایران نواخته می‌شده است. این سازی‌ست روایت‌گر و نیایشی؛ پلی میان اسطوره، تجربه‌ی درونی، و آوای جمعی.

در کنار تنبور، در این اجرا از سازهای دف، تنبک، و تنبورک بلوچی نیز استفاده خواهد شد؛ تنبورک سازیست کوبه‌ای–ملودیک از جنوب‌شرق ایران، که شاید برای اولین بار است در کنار تنبور قرار می‌گیرد. 

این اجرا دریچه‌ای‌ست به جهان آیینی تنبور؛ تجربه‌ای شنیداری برای آنان که می‌خواهند با موسیقی باستانی و عرفانی ایران بیشتر آشنا شوند.

این اجرای یک ساعته توسط انجمن موسیقی ایرانیان بریتیش کلمبیا برگزار می‌شود و با حمایت مالی Government of Canada's New Horizons Grant for Seniors program (برنامه افق‌های نو برای سالمندان از سوی دولت کانادا) ممکن شده است. در پایان برنامه زمانی برای پرسش و تعامل با هنرمندان در نظر گرفته شده است.
