September 24, 2022

2:00 pm to 3:30 pm

Interested in crafts and learning new hobbies? Join this fun program and learn about one of these skills, taught by two skilled community members over two consecutive Saturdays (Sept. 17 & 24):

  • Knitting
  • Crocheting
  • Journaling
  • Art of colouring

During each session, participants will work on their chosen craft, mingle and connect with other participants over a cup of tea and snacks. Please note, if you choose any of the above crafts (knitting, crocheting, journaling or colouring), you will be engaged in that activity for the two-week period. Participants have to choose their desired craft in the first session on Sept. 17 and must attend both sessions on Sept. 17 & 24.

  • Knitting: This is for beginner knitters. Participants will be given free yarn and needles and will work on cast on, the knit stitch and cast off in the first session. They can take their supplies home to practice with. At session two, participants will learn about changing colour, joining a new ball of yarn, weaving in ends and — time permitting — will receive an introduction to purl stitch and patterns.
  • Crocheting: This is for beginner crocheters. Participants will be given free supplies of yarn and a crochet hook and will learn about chain stitch, foundation chain, foundation row and single crochet at the first session. They can take their supplies home to practice with. At session two, participants will change colour, join a new ball of yarn, weave in ends and — time permitting — will receive an introduction to other stiches.
  • Journaling: This workshop is and introduction to journaling for self-care and creativity. Session one is an introduction to journaling (what it can do for you, how to get started, etc.) and session two will go into greater depth into the journals as a tool for self-care and creativity, and will explore the infinite possibilities that this hobby can offer.
  • Colouring: This workshop is an exploration of the world of colour and the art of colouring. Participants will experience colouring mandalas and Indigenous designs. Session one is introduction to colours. In session two, we will go into colouring in greate depth and, of course, have fun with it!

This program is for adults only. Space is limited and registration is required. Made possible by Library Small Grants.
