Wi-Fi and Internet Access

Wi-Fi

NVCL provides a wireless network called libair for customers using their own wireless devices. This service is available from most locations within the library. There is also a Wi-Fi network called plazair available in the Civic Plaza. No passwords are required for either network, but you must accept the acceptable use policy when you connect.

Libair hours

  • Monday to Friday 7 a.m. – 8:59 p.m.
  • Saturday 9 a.m. – 4:59 p.m.
  • Sunday 1 p.m. – 4:59 p.m.

Plazair Hours

  • Friday to Saturday 7 a.m. - 11:59 p.m.
  • Sunday to Thursday 7 a.m. - 10 p.m.

Security

Please be aware that all public wireless networks are not completely secure and information sent to or from your equipment can be captured by rogue users using the same network. Customers are responsible for the security of their own equipment and data in a public wireless environment, and are advised to consider installing a software firewall and the latest operating system updates.

Connecting

Users are responsible for making the wireless connection from their equipment to the Library's wireless network. Most newer laptops and mobile devices using newer operating systems (Windows 7/8, Mac OS X, Android) will automatically detect the Library's wireless network

Troubleshooting

Having problems? Please see our troubleshooting guide (PDF) or ask a staff member for help.

Staff Assistance

Customers are responsible for their own equipment and software. Staff cannot help with troubleshooting customers' hardware and software problems, except to offer a few basic suggestions.

Staff will assist Library patrons with Internet use as time permits but cannot offer personal in-depth instruction at the information desks. Users are also encouraged to use any online help or tutorials available. The Library's TechConnect technology training program provides 1-1 tech coaching (fill in this form to book an appointment), as well as computer classes and a host of online resources.
