North Vancouver City Library is excited to announce the expansion of its Sunday hours, beginning Sept. 7, 2025. As a busy, popular community hub, the library is committed to making its services more accessible to all. With the new hours, City Library will now be open Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., giving customers more time to enjoy the wide range of collections, programs and spaces for learning, connection and exploration.
This service expansion has been made possible with support from the City of North Vancouver.
“The City Library is a cornerstone of our community, and we know these extended Sunday hours will be welcomed by families, students, seniors and many others,” said Mayor Buchanan. “Expanding access, including a dedicated sensory-friendly hour, makes our library more inclusive and responsive to the needs of our residents, and reflects Council’s commitment to building a City for People — a community that is equitable, inclusive, welcoming and safe for everyone.”
In addition to the extended hours, City Library is introducing a dedicated sensory-friendly hour Sundays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., starting Sept. 7, 2025. Supported by grant funding from the Province of BC and inspired by sensory-friendly programming at MONOVA: the Museum of North Vancouver, this new initiative aims to create a safe, calm and supportive environment for individuals with sensory sensitivities, including those who find bright, busy spaces overwhelming.
During sensory-friendly hour, the library’s environment will be modified by reducing the lighting levels, lowering noise and providing a dedicated space. Customers of all ages can enjoy a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere, which is important to making City Library accessible for all.
“This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to the values and priorities laid out in our new strategic plan, which emphasizes inclusive access and responsive service,” stated Board Chair Brendan Harvey. “Everyone should feel welcome and comfortable at City Library, and we are delighted to offer this hour specifically designed with sensory-sensitive individuals and families in mind.”
North Vancouver City Library invites all community members to visit during the new Sunday hours, whether it’s to browse the collections, study, attend a program or simply enjoy a much-loved welcoming space. For more information about the new Sunday hours, please contact us at info@nvcl.ca.
