There are lots of ways to get involved with the Library or your community. For further information on these or any other opportunities please contact the teen department at (604) 998-3494.

Volunteering opportunities can fill up quickly. These opportunities are first come, first served. We will do our best to accommodate your requests! Please note, all Library volunteers who work with the public will undergo a mandatory criminal background check.



Tweens (Grade 5-7)

Tween Advisory Group is on hold until Spring, 2018.



Teens (Grades 8-12)

Registration for Winter 2018 term is now open.

Here are the Winter 2018 volunteer oppportunities:

Teen Advisory Council (TAC) – Want to develop your leadership skills while having fun helping to plan and promote Library programs and events for teens? Attend meetings twice monthly Tuesday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m. Our first meeting will be January 16. You will also get a chance to provide input on teen services and materials at the Library.

Teen Art & Promotion Group (TAP) – Do you love art and/or graphic design? Join the Library’s new Teen Art & Promotion Group to put your creative skills to work. Attend meetings twice monthly on Tuesday afternoons from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Our first meeting will be on January 9. You will get to create artwork and promote Library programs. You may also get involved with curating teen artwork in the Library, or assisting with creating themed decorations for the teen room.

Read Along – Want to help children build their reading skills? Volunteer to be a reading buddy for children. You must be able to commit to volunteering each Wednesday, January 17 – February 28, from 4 to 5 p.m. English reading and speaking skills are required for this volunteer opportunity.

Homework Help! – Love learning new things and teaching others? Be a tutor for pre-teens and teens. Volunteer Mondays 3:30-5:30 p.m., and some flexible hours TBA. Our orientation meeting will be Monday, January 15.

Culture and Language Exchange Group - Seeking teen volunteers to participate in building understanding across cultures and languages. Meet with an international student or newcomer to Canada for one hour per week for six weeks, starting in February 2018. Schedule TBA.

Library Events – Want to help with a variety of Library events? Volunteer to help with Library events, like our Kilby Memorial Teen Art Contest, Movie Nights in the Plaza, teen room parties and more. You get to choose which events to sign up for. Events schedule TBA.

Lego Robotics - FULL- Want to be a mentor to pre-teens learning about LEGO Robotics in the library? Volunteer from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays during the school year. Our orientation meeting will be Tuesday, January 16. No prior experience with LEGO or robotics is needed.
