Borrow and Renew

All library materials may be borrowed with a valid library card, with the exception of reference materials, iPads, and restricted-use home services audiobooks. Registration for a library card is free. If you give us your email address you will receive renewal and overdue reminders.

Note, you can only check out items if your total fine balance (including overdue items not returned yet) is less than $5.

Online renewal via our online catalogue

Go to our Library Catalogue, and log in using your library barcode and PIN (last 4 digits of your phone number), then select the "My Account/Renewal" menu link.

Automated Phone System (604 982-3917)

TeleCirc is our automated telephone renewal service, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling (604) 982-3917. Access your account from a touch-tone phone and follow the prompts. Have your Library card handy.

Registered customers can also use our automated phone system to list and renew items on loan, list and cancel holds, and check on overdue items and fines.

Additionally, TeleCirc can notify you by phone about items on hold, overdue items and fines.

Holds

  • Hold requests for items currently checked out are free. There is a 50 cent charge per request on items that are checked-in and on the shelves.  If a hold request is cancelled before it is filled, the 50 cents will be refunded.
  • When hold items become available for pickup, customers will be notified by e-mail or by phone.
  • Customers will have seven days to pick up their holds from the first floor holds shelf.
  • There is a $1 no-pickup charge if an item that's been set aside for you is not picked up within the seven days of notification.

Returns

  • The library has both exterior and interior return slots where materials can be returned.
  • Customers can return library material to any participating Interlink Library, which will forward the returned material to NVCL. Return dates will reflect the date the material was dropped off to the first library, and exclude the time taken to deliver the item back to our library.
  • Return iPads and e-readers to the Welcome Desk only. DO NOT return them through the book return slots.

Other Fees

  • Replace a lost card: $3
  • Fee for lost item: replacement cost, plus $5 per item for paperbacks, $5 per item for children’s materials, and $10 per item for other materials
  • Library card registration fee for non-residents outside InterLink communities: $50 per year
  • Library card registration fee for non-resident students outside InterLink communities: $25 per year
  • Library card registration fee for temporary visitors: $20 for 3 months
  • Long overdue items: fines of $100 or more that remain outstanding after a year will go to our collections agency. Also, when the maximum overdue fine for an iPad is reached, the account will go to collections.
