Teen zine

Deadline for submissions extended till Jan. 31

Artwork by Zoe Brown

We are now accepting submissions for the teen zine, winter 2021 issue: Pandemics. This issue will explore pandemics — both current and historical, real and fictional. We’ve experienced many challenges and difficult changes because of COVID-19, but we’ve also seen positive effects and communities coming together. We now understand pandemics of the past in a different way, and can clearly imagine futuristic pandemic stories. We want to see your creativity reflected in this theme; the good, the bad, the hopeful, the bored, the connected, the lonely and the inspired.

What we’re looking for:

  • Short stories, 750 word max
  • Poetry, 500 word max
  • Book reviews, 250 word max
  • Movie reviews, 250 word max
  • Non-fiction articles, 750 word max
  • Photography
  • Illustrations
  • Comic strips
  • Puzzles

Need ideas? Here’s some examples:

  • Non-fiction article about a historical pandemic like the Spanish Flu
  • Photographs of social distancing in public
  • Artwork of people connecting virtually
  • Short stories about characters living through a fictional pandemic
  • Poetry about isolation and mental health
  • Comic strips about neighbours supporting each other
  • Reviews of books about hobbies you can do at home
  • Crossword using clues related to pandemics

Submission guidelines:

  • Open to teens in Grades 7-12 living in the Lower Mainland
  • Original work only
  • Must explore the theme of pandemics

How to submit:

  • Accepted file types are: .doc, .docx, .jpg, .gif, .png
  • Email your submission as an attachment to nvclteenzine@gmail.com
  • Deadline: Friday, Jan. 15, 2021
