Year of Science

Year of Science at City LibraryCity Library is injecting a full dose of science-based programming into its calendar this year. The library’s Year of Science will help shape the many free programs, workshops and author talks the library regularly produces using science as the lens to inspire creativity and discovery.

Programs will help the community learn and practise scientific principles used the world over: data analysis, close observation, pattern identification and critical thinking.

Become a citizen scientist with our biodiversity project

Citizen Science is a growing worldwide phenomenon where regular people make real contributions to scientific understanding.

Want to become a part of this growing movement? Join us for the first workshop of the City Library biodiversity observation project! This workshop will introduce you to Citizen Science and cover how to use our chosen platform: iNaturalist — a website and app used to observe and identify wildlife in nature.

The first workshop will be followed by a self-paced observation phase, then a final workshop to learn the results of the project and develop our data analysis skills.
