May 25, 2022
6:00PM to 7:00PM
As part of Asian Heritage Month, join us for a discussion with award-winning author and journalist Ann Hui, who wrote the best-seller Chop Suey Nation: The Legion Café and Other Stories from Canada’s Chinese Restaurants. She'll talk about the book with Vancouver journalist Ming Wong.
In 2016, Hui drove across Canada, from Victoria to Fogo Island, to write about small-town Chinese restaurants. It was only after the story was published that she discovered her own parents had run their own Chinese restaurant, The Legion Cafe, before she was born. Chop Suey Nation details her journey to understand the history behind Chinese-Canadian food — and her own family's story.
This is a virtual program that takes place online via Zoom. Registration is required by 5 p.m. May 25, and the Zoom link will be sent one hour before the start of the event to the email address you use to register.
