The Collaboratory

Coming soon: the Collaboratory!

We have started work on enclosing the third floor terrace and transforming the space into a hands-on learning laboratory. The space will be multipurpose in order to expand our program offerings and services to the community, especially in the areas of computer and technology instruction, robotics, coding and STEAM workshops for all ages.

FAQs

What’s going on with the terrace?

The terrace will be enclosed and reconstructed into a digital lab and makerspace. The library will host computer programs, coding classes, robotics and STEAM-based programs, interactive lectures and more for all ages.

When will it be finished?

Construction began in the summer. We anticipate the space will be finished in October and we hope to begin programming later this year.

What will happen in the new space?

Library staff are working on developing new programs and program models for what can happen in the space — including virtual and socially distanced programming. If you or have an idea for additional programs, please use the program proposal form on our website: https://www.nvcl.ca/using-the-library/program-proposals

The lab will be dedicated for library programming only — the space will not be available for private events or gatherings. The lab will have movable furniture so it can be configured for lectures, hands-on instruction, robotics coding and lots more STEAM projects.

What is it called?
